Hey all, we need to have an annual conference of testers to help cultivate a sense of industry comraderie. We also need to promote learning. We have access to world-class talent that we can bring over digitally as well. Where should we hold a conference, and when?
Ideas:
- make it adjacent to an existing industry event like GBCA's Green Building Day which caters more to the actual building industry
- make it adjacent to the AIRAH Building Physics Forum because we have a lot of friends there
- make it a bit of a getaway at a place outside a major city - possibility of an overnight event

What do you think?

2022 - Make it in a pub or RSL or hotel?
Do it earlier because the holidays seem like a very busy time?
Maybe make it an opportunity to plan the 2023 event as well?

Maybe do this year's closer to AIRAH Building Physics Forum? http://www.airah.org.au/BuildingPhysicsForum/Default.aspx
This is where it will be held. We could do another event in a similar meeting room. Depends how formal we want to make it. https://www.mercuresydney.com.au/meetings-events/grand-central/
Hopefully we'll have a Laverne Dalgleish, key person of the inception and running of Air Barrier Association of America for many years. https://www.airbarrier.org/
We could also do a virtual guest as another option.

Pro Clima Australia has offered their space as a potential meeting place as well. Another option.

Will send a meeting invite for a planning group.

Ideas:
  • Round Robin test of a house - renting a house and testing the house in Round-Robin fashion? i.e. bring your own kit and test the same house and see how close we all get.
  • Working groups
    • Calibration, Green Star, Passive House, Air barrier industry, Codes
  • Contests? (set up blower door fastest)
  • Awards? (most tests, best tests, biggest test, smallest test, fewest tests, best average performing buildings, worse performing buildings)
  • Calculation of envelope areas check
  • Calibration comparison (BYO manometer or thermometer for silent comparison against peers)
  • Training – Sketchup, Acrobat, Bluebeam, Infrared, etc

Sydney

Made some progress planning. We will make the annual event the day before the AIRAH Building Physics Forum. That will make the timing and travel costs for those coming from a distance easier. The event will be during the day, probably 12 - 5 PM, with informal networking drinks and dinner nearby afterwards.

We will see if we can get a guest for a presentation on topics of interest to attendees. The presentation will be live-streamed as well. Topics may include testing equipment, technical standards, research, air barrier products and approaches. If we can get someone here to do an event, we will. Otherwise we will find someone in USA or Canada to present because the timing is better.

Then we will have contests, games, and funny awards to make it an enjoyable and memorable event. Games like: Who can run an ATTMA-compliant test the fastest? Who can set up a blower door frame the fastest? Smoke machine wars? Who has the best picture of a building science fail?

Other ideas: networking speed-dating, working groups (Green Star, codes, etc),

May charge a small fee for non-members to help fund the festivities and let them know we're serious about it being a good time.

We'll send a survey to see where we should go for dinner afterwards.

Got ideas? Anyone who wants to help plan, raise your hand to sean.maxwell@attma.org.
